Invitation to a Reading Course: Francisco de Vitoria's „Erste Relectio über die kirchliche Gewalt“

From 27 to 30 March 2017, the “School of Salamanca” project will hold a reading course focusing on Francisco de Vitoria’s „Erste Relectio über die kirchliche Gewalt“ (“First Relection on the power of the Church“). Based on a close reading of this text, Vitoria’s position in the long-debated question of the relation between ecclesiastical and temporal power and of the pope’s power (potestas) will be the subject of an interdisciplinary conversation between legal history, philosophy, and theology.
The reading course targets advanced graduate and postgraduate students as well as post docs from law, philosophy, history, theology, and political science.
The course will be conducted in German.
