Contributions to Austrian Legal History

April 15, 2026

The Commission for Austrian Legal History of the Austrian Academy of Sciences kindly invites you to send manuscripts for the journal BRGÖ (Contributions to Austrian Legal History) in German or in English by 1 September 2026 at the latest.

The BRGÖ – Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs (Contributions to Austrian Legal History) is a peer-reviewed journal. It appears twice a year both online and in print from the Austrian Academy of Sciences press. The editors are the members of the Commission for Austrian Legal History of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, an international scientific board supports them in their work. The BRGÖ is dealing with all parts of legal history (constitutional history, history of private, criminal and procedural law, history of jurisprudence, ...) from the Middle Ages up to our times. The term "Austria" is to be understood in the broadest sense; contributions to the legal history of Bohemia or Hungary are welcome as well as to other territories which belonged to Austria in the past. Also, the legal history of bigger entities – from the Holy Roman Empire to the European Union – are important parts of the legal history of Austria.
