The medieval body of texts known as 'canon law' not only regulates
strictly religious or ecclesiastical issues but also communicates social
and moral ideas about the inner life of society. This five-year
position focuses on the ways in which ideas and notions of social order
are transmitted, appropriated, altered, and promoted in canonical
collections. Its main interest lies not so much in individual canons,
but in the subtext of combinations of canones.
